Founded in 1998 as Hansford Hornsby Architects, evolving to form SALT Architects in 2004, we are an experienced, award winning studio based in Beverley, East Yorkshire.
We understand that successful projects are born out of close working relationships and as a client you can expect to have an agreed communication strategy in place ensuring that you are included and updated regularly as work progresses. The practice works as a team with other approved consultants and contractors and is committed to ensuring integration and best quality throughout the process.
We have a wealth of experience working on a wide range of projects from people wishing to improve their home through to national organisations involved with important landscape, ecological and building heritage. We are committed to developing successful working relationships with all of our clients who include The National Trust, The RSPB, The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, The York Diocese and The Yorkshire Arboretum.
Helping third sector and community groups has, and remains, a core passion for us. Many of these projects require early input, bringing many stakeholders together to develop robust feasibility plans which can then help to secure funding. Projects with Able and the Green Future Builders, the Sure Start Centre for PANDA as well as the work we are doing with SOHOCO and the Scarborough skills village are successful examples and reflect the diversity that can result from a collaborative and inclusive working method.
We enjoy improving lives through the craft of making spaces, building and landscape.
All projects are the responsibility of one of the Directors and work within the office is carried out by teams who are qualified, enthusiastic and have experience of delivering quality projects.
As an RIBA Chartered Practice, enjoying YorConsult and Constructionline status, the systems we operate fulfil the requirements of stringent Quality Assurance, Environmental, Equality, and Operational standards.

The services offered by SALT are tailored to individual needs whether it is just for initial ideas, up to Planning and Building Regulation Approval or through to the whole build and completion of works.
As an RIBA Chartered Practice, the work we do is described within the RIBA plan of work which covers project procurement, design, delivery and post completion monitoring. We offer a full range of professional services from inception to completion, providing a service that can be tailored to your needs.
The plan of work is a framework which sets out projects in a structured way. We understand that every project is unique and as part of the project team we aim to understand your needs and match or exceed your ambition. We can help with the appointment and co-ordination of other consultants allowing you to benefit from a ‘one stop shop’ if required.
